Valentine’s Day is a special time to express your love and appreciation for that special someone. However, finding a unique and meaningful gift can be a bit of a challenge.

Well, I've got a Valentine's Day gift idea for you - a lovely DIY heart keychain kit. Nothing feels as personal as a handmade gift, especially when it comes to the holiday of love. The DIY heart keychain is an easy craft for beginners, it's also affordable! The best part? This heart keychain can be separated into two, allowing both of you to carry a piece of each other wherever you go. And to make it even more special, it supports name customization. So, without further ado, let's get started to make this loving gifts.

Before we get started, let's check what's included in this heart keychain DIY kit.

  • 4 well pre-cut and pre-punched leather pieces
  • Enough waxed thread
  • Needles
  • Keyrings
  • Scissors

Additionally, you will need to prepare a lighter or some glue (for keeping thread ends in place in case the thread unravels).

Some sandpaper, burnish gum and swabs if you want to burnish the edges.

Everything is ready now. Let's crafting!

Step 1. Measure thread and thread needles

Firstly, get two leather pieces we need to attack the backsides together. That will be a half heart keychain. Measure a thread which length is equal to 4 times of the length we need to sew. This measuring way is also can apply to POPSEWING other leather sewing kits.

We use traditional saddle stitching to sew them up. Saddle stitching is easy to learn and will help us make neat and firm sewing seam. Hermes is using this sewing method to make their leathercrafts too.

Step 2. Sewing

We start sewing from this stitching hole.

Then keep stitching till we reach the very first stitching hole.

Step 3. Finish the thread ends

When we reach the last stitching hole, we should backstitch and keep stitching 2 holes to make our seam strong. Then cut off threads and leave small tails. Use lighter flame to melt the ends, be careful don't get the flame too close to leather or it will burn it out.

Step 4. Burnishing

If we want to let our heart keychains looks more exquisite, we could burnish its edges before we install the keyrings. Since POPSEWING can't ship liquid abroad so you'll need to prepare burnish tools yourself.

Apply burnish gum on leather edges evenly.

When it's dry, sand the edges till smooth.

At last, apply a final burnish gum and wait for it dry.

Step 5. Install the keyrings

Voila! There you have it. Your DIY couple's heart keychain is ready. This simple yet thoughtful gift is guaranteed to bring a smile to your loved one's face. The hardware is made from solid brass, so its color will never fade away not like those low-quality keyrings. Personalized and heartfelt, it truly captures the spirit of Valentine’s Day, allowing you to carry a symbol of your love wherever you go.

Personalize Your Romantic Keychains

This is where you make the keychain truly yours. With your letter stamps, press your names into each half of the heart. If you’d like, you can add any other small details or decorations that would make it extra special.

This POPSEWING DIY project is a fun activity for couples to do together, adding a whole other layer of love and memories to the gift. So, gather your POPSEWING leather kits, roll up your sleeves, and get ready to create some love-filled magic this Valentine’s Day!
