About the leather

What is white wax leather?

White wax leather is made from 100% full grain leather too. The white wax finish will wear and patina over time exposing more and more of the beautiful color beneath. You can buff with a cloth to remove some of the finish to get just the right look you want to start with. There may be some marks in the white coatings in our fulfillment and shipping process, they will remover overtime with use.

Note: The leather edges are not painted or burnished. If you want to burnish edges, you will need to buy the burnish gum yourself.

Gorgeous colors and design, so happy with the kit and the finished product!

Great quality veg tanned leather

I love the color and the quality of the veg-tanned leather in this satchel-bag kit. It is a nice, approx 2mm thick leather that does not need to be lined and so it is not. The video instructions for the kit are visually easy to follow (I turned off the sound because I do not understand Chinese) and the bag came together quickly -- granted I do have experience hand stitching leather and I am well versed in making a saddle stitch (aka “leap frog” stitch). I do have two issues with this kit: The color of the thread and the color of the magnetic snaps that come with it. The thread in the kit for this dark green bag is a light gray. Skeptically, I sewed a few saddle stitches on the green leather before determining that, indeed, the gray color cheapened the appearance of the bag. So I ripped those stitches out and bought a 1mm flat-waxed-thread in dark green. With the dark green thread, the bag now looks as expensive as it feels. The magnetic snaps that come with this kit are inexplicably silver instead of gold. Since the snaps can be seen when the flap is open, I knew I had to put in gold snaps in place of the silver. Fortunately, gold magnetic snaps are easy to find and purchase online so that was an easy swap. I decided to give this kit 5 stars despite the terrible color choices of the thread and magnetic snaps. I did this because the bag itself is such good quality and it was so easy to assemble. Please note the photograph shows my bag constructed with green thread and gold magnetic snaps.
